#51 Disconnecting a hot water system
This awesome video shows you how to disconnect a water heater safely and securely. Before disconnecting, this video explains the functions of the hot water system and its elements.
Firstly locate your breaker box and turn off the power to the water heater. Looking at the electric lines, double check the power is off.
Turn off the water line supply by screwing the valve off. Then drain the water out using the drain on the tank using drain pan and drain. If yours doesn’t have those two things you will have to connect a hose and drain outside.
You can open up the hot water connection to push more air in which will help the drain process. While waiting for it to drain, take off the hot and cold water connections and disconnect the restraining straps on the heater.
Last thing to do is to take off the drain lines. You may be able to unscrew or otherwise you can saw them off. Then viola! Your hot water system is disconnected and able to be moved or relocated.
